IDEAS Episode 12 - Being Comfortable with Discomfort in Educational Research: A Phenomenological Approach - Lori Driussi

In this episode of IDEAS, we talk to Lori Driussi about wayfaring, an approach in phenomenology, and the notion of discomfort for pedagogically transformative moments for students and teachers. Lori completed her Doctor of Philosophy degree in the Education Theory and Practice Program at Simon Fraser University. Her phenomenological inquiry considered the unique characteristics, formative of pedagogical practices, an international teacher education placement for pre-service teachers offered. Weaving together stories of research participants, her own experiences, and relevant literature she considered Ingold’s ‘wayfaring’ and Deleuze and Guattari’s ‘becoming’ as a way to lean into the pedagogically transformative moments offered by discomfort. As a former principal, literacy consultant, and classroom teacher Lori is excited to work alongside beginning teachers. She is currently an Adjunct Faculty Associate at Simon Fraser University and offers professional development workshops on instruction and assessment. Lori is an active volunteer in her community and enjoys cycling, roller-skating and ukulele. She lives with her wife Jillian in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
